The Futility of Life Without Devotion
Life is meaningless without devotion. The Great Master (Maharaj) addresses all men and women, saying: "To live in this world without devotion is a matter of shame and reproach." Without worship (Bhajan), a human being is no different from insects, dogs, animals, or birds.
The Illusion of Worldly Success
Even if a person possesses a vast kingdom or becomes worthy of the heavenly realms—if they have not practiced devotion to the Divine Name (Nij Nam), the cycle of birth and death remains unbroken. This is what it means to be "food for the Lord of Death" (Jam ka Khana).
One may possess:
Infinite intellect and extreme caution.
Extraordinary strength and refined, cultured speech.
The ability to speak with the experience of having seen the entire world.
Inexhaustible wealth that never ends.
Yet, if they have not engaged in worship, they will ultimately depart this world in tears, for nothing of this world goes with them.
The Limits of External Rituals
Some people undergo severe penance, engage in Yogic practices for ages, and perform every possible virtuous deed—leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of good karma. However, if they have not practiced devotion to the Inner Name, liberation (Moksha) can never be attained.
The Final Conclusion
In conclusion, the Master says:
"Contemplate everything with spiritual discernment (Vivek). Look at all people—if they have not attained the Fearless Wisdom (Anbhai Gyan) of the True Guru (Satguru), and despite being blessed with a human birth, they fail to realize the Divine, then that is their ultimate defeat. In the end, they must depart as ones who have lost the battle of life."
